“Safaris for the Soul”
Sashwa River of Stars is a luxury safari retreat on a private game reserve within the Greater Kruger in South Africa. Nestled on the banks of the Olifants River, where the daily flow of wildlife can be witnessed on the floodplain below, our lodge provides a tranquil sanctuary for transformative safaris, combining wildlife experiences with holistic wellness.
The lodge features ten suites blending seamlessly with the natural surrounds, offering stunning views of wildlife and the river. Immerse yourself in the African wilderness with experiences ranging from safari drives and wilderness walks to nature yoga, breathwork and art therapy. Facilities encompass a Wholeness Center with sauna, gym and spa rooms, a creative studio, swimming pool, various yoga and meditation spaces as well as a garden-to-table restaurant and various indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.
Operating as a social enterprise, Sashwa reinvests profits directly into their conservation and community initiatives, namely with their partnership with non-profit community project Koru Camp located on the same reserve. Additionally, the lodge operates fully on solar power, has its own organic permaculture garden, filters its own mineral water on-site and only uses biodegradable and eco-friendly products. With sustainability and deep love for nature and all beings as their inspiration, they are passionate about serving nourishing plant-based, garden-to-table inspired cuisine in their kitchen, using many of their own on-site grown ingredients; the first of it’s kind in the African Wilderness.
Sashwa’s ethos is centered around the power of nature and profound wildlife experiences to heal, inspire, and transform. Whether you seek a soul filled safari or wellness in the wilderness, our unique and holistic blend of immersive experiences promises to awaken your senses, nourish your soul, and leave you forever changed.

3 weeks agoSashwa River of Stars is more than a lodge — it’s a dream brought to life with care and intention. I had the pleasure of starting my year here, visiting my friend, conservationist, and philanthropist Peter Eastwood, and seeing his beautifully renovated lodge. From the moment you arrive, you can feel that something very special is happening — a place created to inspire, heal, and reconnect. Set on the banks of the Olifants River, Sashwa is a sanctuary to breathe, be still, and reconnect with yourself. The gardens are lush, the birdlife endless, and there are meditation and yoga spaces plus a peaceful deck overlooking the river. The rondavels and chalets are clean and comfy, the plant-based food delicious, and the staff are warm, kind, and welcoming. What makes Sashwa truly remarkable is its purpose. The lodge supports Koru Camp, a children’s camp that has welcomed thousands of kids from neighbouring communities, offering education, play, and experiences in nature. This is real impact — Peter and his team are actually making it happen. Sashwa is perfect for reconnecting with yourself or extended family, hosting a small wedding, running a wellness retreat, or simply starting or ending a safari. A stunning place with an even bigger heart and soul.

a month agoWe had the most magical stay at Sashwa. The rooms are stunning, if you can stay on the river side to wake to the sound of the hippos and a view of the elephants playing across the river bed. Ian (your guide and game man!) is super informative & the most respectful guide we have experienced whilst on safari. This makes the world of difference, every animal appeared so relaxed and calm around us so we could just watch and observe them for hours! It felt truly magical. I treated myself to the 'bounce back' massage which I could not recommend enough, Danielle's hands are something of magic & wow so strong! I just wish we could have stayed another night. We will most certainly be back. Such a beautiful way to visit the bush, with so many wholesome activities on offer from yoga to the creative studio - I wish we could have done more :)

a month agoMy stay at Sashwa River of Stars was not just a safari, it was a deeply nourishing, transformative experience that stayed with me long after I left. Sashwa is unlike any other lodge in Kruger, and I say this after visiting many. What makes it truly extraordinary is not just the beauty of the land, but the people who bring the space to life. Every single person at Sashwa radiates kindness, presence, intention, and genuine care. You feel held, welcomed, and seen from the moment you arrive. Their holistic philosophy isn’t just a concept, you feel it in every detail, every meal, every conversation, and every moment of stillness in nature. Speaking of meals… their plant-based food is exceptional. Every dish was vibrant, delicious, and created with so much love. It was some of the best food I’ve had anywhere in South Africa. The highlight of my time was visiting Koru Camp, Sashwa’s nonprofit initiative. Meeting the management and learning more about the impact they are making in the community was incredibly inspiring. As someone who also works in nonprofit education, this experience meant the world to me, it was a privilege to visit. Sashwa has set a new standard for what a safari can be: intentional, soulful, grounded, and deeply connected to community. It is the best safari experience I have ever had, and I cannot wait to return, not only as a guest, but hopefully to host a retreat next year. If you’re seeking a safari that touches your heart as much as your senses, Sashwa is the place. It is truly a sanctuary of stars, spirit, and unforgettable people.
