Mount Koya—a
UNESCO heritage site surrounded by ancient temples and peaceful mountain landscapes.
This retreat invites you to pause, reset, and immerse yourself in the beauty of each moment. Alongside
daily yoga sessions balancing yin and yang practices, Eriko will guide you through a special
workshop on ikigai, Japan’s art of discovering life’s purpose. This experience will allow you to delve into reflections on purpose and balance, supported by the wisdom of Japanese culture.
At the
Koyasan monastery, we’ll enjoy
shojin ryori, a traditional, modest Buddhist meal with a variety of small dishes, each prepared with care and simplicity. With serene surroundings and rituals like morning prayers, and a fire ceremony, this retreat offers a deeply immersive journey into presence and joy.

Programme: 14 – 19 October 2025
Day 1: Arrival & Osaka’s Vibrant Spirit
Afternoon Shrine Visit: Begin our journey with a visit to a serene Shinto shrine in the heart of Osaka, a quiet reflection of Japan’s spiritual roots in daily life.
Evening Street Food & Nightlife: Get your walking shoes out to dive into Osaka’s lively Minami district, sampling delicious street foods and experiencing the vibrant nightlife.
Day 2: Morning Leisure & Koyasan Arrival
Morning Free Time: Enjoy a luxurious buffet breakfast at our hotel, with time to explore or relax before checkout.
Afternoon Arrival in Koyasan: Settle into the tranquil surroundings with a grounding afternoon yoga session. In the evening, experience shojin ryori—a modest yet flavourful Buddhist vegetarian meal.
Days 3 – 5: Deepening in Koyasan
Daily Morning Prayers: Begin each day with serene morning prayers led by monks, a rare opportunity to connect with ancient traditions.
Yoga Practices: Morning and afternoon yoga sessions will guide us deeper physically, mentally, and spiritually (except on Day 2 morning).
Evening Activity: Choose an optional night tour of Okunoin Cemetery, where we’ll encounter the spiritual legacy of Master Kukai.
Fire Ritual : At a designated time, we’ll witness a powerful fire ritual, observing this sacred ceremony. Those wishing to request a purification may do so for an additional fee.
Ajikan Meditation: Guided through a traditional zen meditation method personally by the head monk.
Ikigai Workshop: Dive into Japanese philosophy and your life purpose.
Day 6: Closing & Return
Final Morning Practice: Our retreat concludes with a reflective morning yoga session, followed by breakfast and farewells as we prepare to return home with a renewed spirit.

About the accommodations:
Osaka
Located in the heart of Namba, a district rich in tradition, the hotel is surrounded by Osaka’s vibrant history of theatre and culture. Namba has long been a gathering place for performance arts, with landmarks like the National Bunraku Theatreand Hozenji Yokocho, a charming alley with ties to classic Japanese literature and entertainment.
The Osaka Royal Park Hotel offers comfortable rooms with free
Wi-Fi, mineral water, and a selection of
coffee and tea. Guests can enjoy
slippers, pajamas, towels, and essential toiletries like
shampoo and
body lotion.
Art gallery in the hotel is one of a kind.
Mount Koya
Shuku-bo. The Japanese word shukubo literally means “accommodation of the monks.” Shukubo is an accommodation experience in which the traveler lodges within a Buddhist temple. A casual style of
temple stay that you can experience in historic temples in Japan. You will experience dishes called
shojin-ryori, which exclusively contain plant-based ingredients instead of using animal products. You can experience a sacred ceremony at a silent temple in the early mornings.
As is common with Japanese traditional accommodations, baths and toilets are shared.
Yukata, face towels, bath towels and
toothbrush sets are provided in your room.
Registration:
Room Selection: Choose a shared or single-use room.
Deposit Payment: Pay a non-refundable 10% deposit to confirm your booking.
Terms Agreement: Read and sign the registration & terms document on the
FORM.
Confirmation: Once the form is complete, you will receive an email to let you know your spot is confirmed.
Balance Payment: The remaining balance is due 90 days before the retreat. You will receive a reminder.
Cancellation policy:
1. More than 90 Days Before Start Date:
If you cancel more than 90 days before the start of the retreat, you will receive a full refund, minus the deposit. If you provide a replacement attendee, the deposit will be refunded as well.
2. 60–89 Days Before Start Date:
If you cancel 60–89 days before the start date, you will receive a 40% refund of the full retreat fee.
If you provide a replacement attendee, you will receive a full refund.
3. Less than 60 Days Before Start Date:
Cancellations made within 59 days of the start date are non-refundable.
4. Government-Imposed Lockdowns:
In the event of a government-imposed lockdown, your deposit and any other payments will be fully refunded.

Eriko is a vibrant, life-loving yogi with almost two decades as a dedicated student and a decade of teaching experience. She shares the wisdom of yoga through dynamic flows, precise alignment, individualised practices, philosophical insights, gentle yin, and a deep understanding of Oriental medicine. As a coach and health coach, Eriko brings skills that enrich her yoga teaching, fostering holistic well-being and balanced lifestyles. Her approach conveys a deeply rooted sense of calm and care, subtly inspired by Japanese mannerisms that make everyone feel welcomed and at ease. Eriko has lived in Australia for the last 20 years and currently resides in the beautiful Northern Rivers.
