Sashwa River of Stars is a luxury safari retreat on a private game reserve within the Greater Kruger in South Africa. Nestled on the banks of the Olifants River, where the daily flow of wildlife can be witnessed on the floodplain below, our lodge provides a tranquil sanctuary for transformative safaris, combining wildlife experiences with holistic wellness.
The lodge features ten suites blending seamlessly with the natural surrounds, offering stunning views of wildlife and the river. Immerse yourself in the African wilderness with experiences ranging from safari drives and wilderness walks to nature yoga, breathwork and art therapy. Facilities encompass a Wholeness Center with sauna, gym and spa rooms, a creative studio, swimming pool, various yoga and meditation spaces as well as a garden-to-table restaurant and various indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.
Operating as a social enterprise, Sashwa reinvests profits directly into their conservation and community initiatives, namely with their partnership with non-profit community project Koru Camp located on the same reserve. Additionally, the lodge operates fully on solar power, has its own organic permaculture garden, filters its own mineral water on-site and only uses biodegradable and eco-friendly products. With sustainability and deep love for nature and all beings as their inspiration, they are passionate about serving nourishing plant-based, garden-to-table inspired cuisine in their kitchen, using many of their own on-site grown ingredients; the first of it’s kind in the African Wilderness.

Our journey began with two people united by a profound passion for the African wilderness and a vision to redefine safari experiences. Driven by a deep love for nature and a commitment to conservation, they embarked on creating a retreat where guests could fully immerse in the transformative power of the wilderness.

2 weeks agoWhat an incredible week I just had in Sashwa! The safari drives or walks were super exciting but also interesting as we were learning lots from our incredible guides Storm and Ian. Paige made sure every single little attention and detail enhanced our stay. The food was delicious. Whether you want to spend a few days or attend one of their retreats, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a trip of a lifetime 🧡

a week agoAn escape like no other - a true wellness experience set in the wild of South Africa. Location, property, food, nature - it is all beyond words. The people of Sashwa feel like family - and being a seasoned traveller myself - my discerning expectations were not only met but by far exceeded. It is immersive and out of this world. Must visit!

a week agoWe enjoyed a three night stay in this incredible space! The facilities are truly amazing and we managed to enjoy tranquil bush walks sunset game drives as well as spa sessions during our stay. The staff are all friendly, incredibly professional and the service was impeccable. This is the ideal get away to recharge and enjoy a healthy retreat into nature

a month agoSashwa is like no other, the fine dining cuisine will blow your mind. The conservation forward mission and the love for the planet is woven into the fabric of every single part of this experience. The Staff has an attention to detail that you will never find anywhere else. The views and the wildlife, from big to small that are present here are a reflection of the ethos that Sashwa lives and breathes and personally, the experience I had at Sashwa was more than money can buy.

3 months agoSashwa is a really special place, with really special people who care deeply about nature as well as the wellness of their guests. I left very much feeling a sense of peace and calm and a profound appreciation for nature and all the animals that inhabit it. There is real care applied not to overconsume but still make the place feel as luxurious as other 5* lodges in the Kruger area. The location on the Olifants River is also very grounding and attracts a constant chorus of laughing hippos and other visiting wildlife. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience and integrate with the African bush.
